Nikki

“It feels weird seeing the club in the daytime when there is no one here,” Nikki said as she and Chaz took the elevator to his office. Chaz had just picked her up from another one of her Chemo treatments when he remembered that he had to get some files to send to the realtor from the club. He had offered to take her home first, but Nikki had told him that she wasn’t in a rush to return home.

“Yeah, I say that all the time. Give me a minute though and let me find this file, then we can be out,” Chaz told her as they stepped inside of his office.

Immediately Nikki took a seat while Chaz went to his desk. The paper that he was looking for was a document that he and Vic had signed for them to submit an offer on the new building. He was supposed to have given it to the realtor the week before, but have forgotten all about it until that morning. As he sat down in his plush chair, Chaz opened his drawer and started looking for the paper. He knew that it had to be there because that was the last place that he had it. Nikki sat watching him. She realized how much she loved him and wished that Chaz would just give them another chance. So, she had slipped up a few times. Was that really enough to throw away five years for? She didn’t think so. And the more time she spent with him, the more she wanted to have him back in her life. She just needed to think of a way to convince him that she was the better woman for him. She had been trying to do so, but all Chaz ever wanted to talk about was her cancer. He never even hinted at them getting back together and seemed to have friend zoned her. Maybe she just needed to spruce it up a little. She had been looking a little thrown away, and maybe that’s why Chaz hadn’t noticed her.

“Aye, you ready to go?” Chaz asked bringing Nikki from her thoughts.

“Uh yeah, you found the paper already?” she asked.

“Yeah, I got it right here,” Chaz held the paper up.

“So, you and Vic really about to open another club, huh?” Nikki asked.

“That’s the plan. If everything goes okay with this building, we expect to have it open by the beginning of next year,” Chaz said, and Nikki smiled.

“That’s great, and I’m proud of you. Hopefully, I will be here to see it,” Nikki said with a sad face.

“Aye, don't talk like that, Nikki. It doesn't matter what those damn doctors say. God still got control, and you don’t need to stop fighting,” Chaz fussed.

“I’m sorry, it’s just that I accepted my fate a while ago. I just plan to be happy with whatever time that I have left and do what I have to do to make the best out of a fucked-up situation,” Nikki said, and Chaz gave her a sympathetic look.

He hated to hear her speak like that; it was like she had already given up. And what was worst, is that he knew she was probably right. Nikki was looking thinner and thinner every time he saw her. Her skin didn’t look as healthy as it had before, and he figured that her hair was probably already gone, because of the wig she wore. Chaz’s heart ached because of what she was experiencing. He was aware that Nikki still wanted him, so he wasn’t a fool when it came to that. He just wanted to give her some time, and at least that would make her happy while dealing with her situation.

“Aye, no matter what you think things can still turn around. But look, let me go ahead and fax this, run to the bathroom, and then we can go,” Chaz said just before leaving Nikki to her thoughts.

After Chaz had left, Nikki stared around the room taking in all the different changes that he had made to his office. It looked beautiful and judging by the expensive decorum one could tell that the club was bringing in some real money. Nikki was kicking herself for messing up such a golden opportunity. As she scanned his desk, she realized that he had left his phone behind. Hmm, she thought. Let me see what he has been up to. Nikki stood up from her chair and walked over to Chaz’s door. Peeping her head out, she checked to make sure that he wasn’t coming. When Nikki saw that the close was clear, she ran back over and picked his phone up. First, she went through his contacts, then his call log. In his call log, there were a lot of calls between Chaz and Ises. Next, she went to his text messages and just like with his call log it was mainly filled with back and forward messages between him and Ises. Nikki wanted to know what they had so much to talk about, so she began to read a few. The first one that she read was Ises telling Chaz how much fun she had the night before, and how she appreciated the special surprise that he had planned for her. What surprise? Nikki wondered. The next text message between them was Ises telling him how much she missed him. How pathetic. It was like Ises was a sick little puppy who craved attention from their master. The next message that Nikki read caused her blood to boil. Chaz was telling Ises how much he loved her and how he had never felt that way about any other woman. What the fuck, Nikki thought.

In all the time that she and Chaz had been together, all she had ever heard from him was how he had love for her. He had never really confessed his love to her. Of course, Nikki hadn’t thought too much about it, because she was the type that went off actions, not words. She’d mistakenly thought that because Chaz was always spending his money on her, that meant he really loved her. But now from reading this message on his phone to Ises, Nikki realized that she should have been paying more attention to his words, rather than the dollars he was shoveling out. Having had enough of reading the messages, Nikki closed out and went to his pictures. On his camera roll, she saw dozens of pictures of Ises. Some were of her just sitting down and appearing to be caught off guard. While others, she was actually posing for them. Nikki hated to admit that she was pretty, but she still felt as though Ises didn’t have anything on her. Well, her old self anyway.

Nikki continued to scan through the pictures and after seeing picture after picture of Ises, she had had enough. But something told her to dig through Chaz’s phone a little further. So, she clicked on his videos. The very first video that she saw was of him filming the building that he and Vic were buying for their second club. Nikki clicked out of that one and tapped on the next one.

“Hmm, what is this?” she said aloud. When the video first came on it was focused on Chaz’s bed. Nikki could hear him talking to someone in the background telling them not to be shy. As she continued to look, she suddenly saw Ises crawl onto his bed. Ises was in a see through negligee and Nikki could see her naked body underneath. As much as she knew that she should turn it off, Nikki just couldn’t pull her eyes away. Next, the camera started to shift a little and then it refocused. At that point, you could now see both Chaz and Ises in the video. Then the next thing she knew- “huh,” Nikki gasped. Her heart started to race a mile a minute, her palms became sweaty, and it felt as if she was going to throw up. She was actually watching a video of Chaz and Ises having sex. Apparently, Chaz had propped his phone on something to keep it steady. Because the next thing that could be seen was him sliding his hard on into Ises’s awaiting vagina. And add insult to injury, they weren’t wearing any protection. She’d never had the pleasure of feeling Chaz without a condom. And trust, she’d tried several times, because it would have been nothing more that she’d wanted than to get pregnant by him. But Chaz had been adamant in always strapping up. Nikki focused back on the video and saw how Ises was screaming out as if Chaz’s dick was the best thing ever. Nikki watched Chaz slide in and out of her, and it was with so much passion in his pumps that it made her green with envy. He had never been that gentle with her.

“Oh no, no, no,” Nikki muttered while shaking her head. Chaz had just slid out of Ises, and they were positioning themselves in the sixty-nine positions. In their whole five-year relationship, he had never gone down on her, no matter how many times she asked him to. He had stuck by his word that he didn’t eat pussy, so she had no other choice but to believe it. Nikki was hurt, but she didn’t have time to process it because suddenly she heard heavy footstep coming down the hall. She hurried and sent the video to her phone, and then erased the message. After that, Nikki went to Chaz call log once again and stored Ises number into her mental rolodex. Just as she sat his phone down, Chaz walked back into the office.

“Aye, what you doing?” Chaz barked.

“Ahhh,” Nikki screamed.

“What the hell are you screaming for?” he asked.

“Because you scared me,” Nikki said while holding her chest.

“Okay, but what were you doing at my desk,” he said.

“Um, I was trying to check the time, so I looked at your computer” Nikki lied.

“Why you didn’t just look at your phone?” Chaz said with questioning eyes.

“Because my phone is dead,” Nikki said being quick on her feet.

“Oh, well next time you need to know the time there is a big ass clock on the wall in case you missed it,” Chaz said and walked over to his desk. He picked up his cellphone and tucked it inside of his pocket.

Whew, Nikki thought. He had been that close to catching her snooping. “Okay,” she finally said.

“Aight, let’s go,” Chaz told her and walked over to his door. Nikki got up and followed behind him. She hoped that the video had sent correctly. Since it wasn’t much time to check her phone, Nikki didn’t know for sure if had gone through. Now she just needed to remember Ises number because a plan formulated in her head that she knew would regain Chaz.
